Helmut Federle

Helmut Federle was born in 1944 in Solothurn (Switzerland). From 1964 to 1969, he studied painting under Franz Fedier at the Basel School of Arts and Crafts (AGSBS), and from 1999 to 2007, he taught as a professor at the “Kunstakademie Düsseldorf” Arts Academy. In 1997, Federle exhibited in the Swiss Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

Helmut Federle is passionate about traveling and loves to collect ceramics, textiles, and furniture from different cultures. The prize honors the complete oeuvre of an artist of international stature, an artist who has been dealing with questions surrounding painting and the meaning of the abstract form all his life.
