Example: Switzerland. Unbounding and Crossing Over as Art
Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein, Vaduz. Through January 15, 2012

[...] In addition to seven panels from the group Flache Arbeiten [Planar Works] by Adrian Schiess, there is a work from the Ricola Collection on view in Vaduz that has never been displayed at the company, despite having been part of the collection for some time: a group of 1,058 drawings that Karim Noureldin produced in New York. A room was built within the exhibition that was based on the dimensions of the studio in New York where the artist first exhibited the drawings in the form of an installation in 1997.

Karim Noureldin, who now lives in Lausanne, lived in New York for several years beginning in 1994. These works make up an extensive group of pencil drawings and gouaches of architectural elements, which, when hung closely together as an installation, evoke unfathomable spaces. As individual pieces, these drawings open up a number of perspectives; arranged collectively, they underscore the principle of changing standpoints. For Karim Noureldin, these works are connected to powerful emotions. Having grown up in the manageable scope of Dubendorf, Switzerland, the artist found the dimensions of the metropolis New York represented a real challenge. In the installation he expresses his experience of the city at the time and the associated loss of scale.

he exhibition Example: Switzerland offers an opportunity to experience two groups of works from the Ricola Collection in a dialogue with works by other artists under museum conditions.
